USING DISK DEFRAGMENTER AND DISK CLEANUP THE RIGHT WAY
You
may have heard about how important it is to use disk defragmenter and disk cleanup. However you may not have heard that their is a right way and a wrong way. Do you use Defragmenter first or cleanup up first? Many people who I talk to say that they run defragmenter first. Sorry to say that this is wrong. The proper way is to use disk defragmenter second. If you use it first you will arrange the hard drive so that everything that goes together is in the right place. So what happens of you defragment then pull unused/temp/trash files off of the hard drive. At this point you are now stuck with a fraged drive. See my point. Clear out the old files and then defrag.
To use disk cleanup do the following….
Click the start menu> hover over programs programs to open up the explorer> click accessories> click on system tools> now just click Disk Cleanup.
The program will prompt you as to what to do from here.
To use Disk Defragmenter do the following.
Click the start menu> hover over programs to open up the explorer> click accessories> click on system tools> now just click Disk Defragmenter.
Run defragmenter about once every other month. Unless you add and remove programs on a regular basis this is about all you will need.

CLOSE PROGRAMS USING TASK MANAGER

Ever heard of pressing ctrl+alt+del. When you do this you will have several options. One of them is to use Task Manager. If a program is not responding and will not close do this….
1. Press ctrl+alt+del
2. Click on Task Manager.
3.On the applications tab you will see programs that are running.
4. Click on time on the program and select end task.

  1. The Windows defragmenter hangs or restarts if anything interrupts while its running and sometimes for no obvious reason, it fails to complete the task. There are good third party automatic defragmenters which defrag in the background even when you are doing other stuff. They defrag faster and do so without being obstructive. Google throws up options, trials are worth checking out.

  2. I agree that there are some programs out there who have better Defrag utilities that run faster. Just be sure to watch where you download from. When you are downloading software, images, or email attachment you do this at your own risk.
An easy way to play it safe is to visit PCWorld.com They have a alot of software that is free to use(or to try) and is tested by them. Let others be the test rat.
